As Judge Pro Tempore, Jason Thomas has presided over dozens of trials and hundreds of hearings.

He has judged small claims, adoptions, juvenile delinquency, divorces, evictions, child welfare cases, and others.

As an attorney, Jason Thomas handled civil and criminal matters; representing clients who were in extremely difficult circumstances.

On the bench, Jason Thomas is patient—guiding those who appear in court unfamiliar with court processes—ensuring them fair hearings.

He is understanding, showing kindness when possible; knowing many court participants are not there by choice and may be having the most stressful times of their lives.

Jason Thomas is not afraid of conflict; when emotions flare, he maintains and enforces order and decorum within the courtroom, to deliver fair and impartial verdicts.

Strong efforts have led to genuine accomplishment.

Jason Thomas has coordinated with Douglas County community partners, DHS workers and supervisors, CASA, lawyers, and others; successfully working together to dramatically reduce the number of children in an overburdened foster care system.

With other Douglas County judges, he expanded the use of video appearances, so that those needing court decisions were not unnecessarily delayed—despite pandemic restrictions.
